HSA Seminar 2024 - Animal welfare during transport and slaughter – hot topics 2024
The HSA is holding a one-day seminar highlighting current issues and latest developments. The event will be held on 26 October 2024 at the Norton House Hotel in Edinburgh. The cost of the seminar will be £195.00 (£145 for students and non-wage earners). Places will be limited so register early to avoid disappointment.
Topics will include:
- Legislative updates to include: two-legged catching of poultry; live exports; and farmed fish. Andrew Voas
- SAWC Scotland abattoir survey. Ellie Wigham
- The H2H poultry killing device. Joe Anzuino
- Nitrogen foam for depopulation. Jess Martin
- Livestock transport in cassettes from islands to mainland. Simon Turner
- Temperature-controlled transport of poultry. Peter Kettlewell
- Alternatives to CO2 stunning for pigs. Huw Golledge
- Guidance on slaughter of farmed fish
- Updates on HSA international projects.
Other topics (subject to confirmation):
- Provision of local and private kill facilities in Scotland;
- Welfare in commercial fishing.
A chaired panel discussion will follow the presentations.

The VPHA masterclass is a weeklong Extra-Mural-Studies clinical placement, hosted by one of the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland’s vet schools.
